Materials and care

I am committed to using high quality, long lasting materials & finishes. I want you to be able to wear your Gin Fon Ask jewellery everyday with confidence.

All of the pieces are made using eco-friendly silver or gold.

Eco-friendly silver or gold are metals that have been recycled. It means that there has been no mining or human exploitation involved in making your jewellery. Recycling does not affect the quality of the metal meaning that apart from the way it was sourced, it is exactly the same as any other silver or gold.

STERLING SILVER

Sterling silver is an alloy made of 92.5% pure Silver and 7.5% Copper (That's why you see the 925 mark on these designs). For an even longer lasting finish against tarnish and to maintain a brighter shine.

The simplest way to care for your silver is to wear it often. The natural oils in your skin help reduce silver's oxidation.

While not being worn, store the silver in a clean pouch and avoid water contact.

9, 14 & 18 KARAT SOLID GOLD

Pure gold is an extremely soft metal that is mixed with Copper, Zinc and silver to add some durability. Each of the carats have their own properties that each of us can choose from. The bigger the carat- the more pure gold is in the alloy making the colour more vibrant but slightly less durable. None of the carats oxidise or tarnish easily

Solid 9-karat gold is an extremely durable and wearable metal that does not oxidise or tarnish easily. The gold alloy is mixed with Copper, Zinc and Silver all of which add to the characteristics of the alloy which gives it its soft gold hue and high durability.

Even the strongest of metals need some loving care, therefore we recommend cleaning your pieces 1-2 times a month, especially if you wear them daily.

How to clean my jewellery

Quick clean:

The most simple way to clean jewellery is to use a solution made using a mild dish soap. The milder the soap, the better. Always remember that jewellery with delicate stones should not be cleaned using any harsh chemicals or they can be damaged.

Add lukewarm water and few drops of mild dish soap into the bowl. Submerge your pieces that you are about to clean and leave them to soak for few minutes. After the quick soak, use a soft bristle toothbrush to brush gently around the inside and back of the stones, behind the settings, hinges and clasps to remove any embedded dirt. Rinse twice to remove residue and liquid completely. As you're cleaning the jewelry, take note of any loose stones or damage that needs to be repaired. If gemstones are loose, stop wearing the jewelry until it can be fixed. Finally, dry off with a clean cloth or hand towel and allow it to air dry completely before putting it back into storage. For extra shine finish by giving one final dry buff with precious metals polishing cloth.

Cleaning oxidised metals:

If your jewellery has oxidised and needs that extra love, do not panic! Oxidation is normal and it can be fixed. It will not be as easy as cleaning it with water and dish soap but it is definitely doable! For this, you will need my, as a jewellers best friend- rouge cloth. Just wash your pieces with warm water to remove any dirt, dry off completely with a clean cloth and wipe with the rouge cloth until the oxidation is gone!
